In the tradition of legendary salons such as the Renaissance court of Lorenzo de Medici, Gertrude Stein's Paris Apartment, and Andy Warhol's Factory, Piero Golia is building the Chalet Hollywood. Lasting for one year only, the Chalet will be a gesamtkunstwerk that not only attends to its physical environment, but also to its social composition. Designed in collaboration with Edwin Chan, the Chalet will evoke the inviting atmosphere of alpine lodges know for their warmth and convivial communal spaces and will be populated by an ever-changing rotation of friends and visitors. Beginning in spring 2013, the public will encounter the Chalet through a series of events hosted by Golia, Chan, and a diverse roster of visiting artists, architects, and unexpected guests. Together they will engage and explore the Chalet's unique environment through social ritual.

Edwin Chan joined Frank O. Gehry & Associates after graduating from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University in 1985. He has worked on many of the firm's most significant projects, including the Nationale-Nederlanden Building (Prague), the Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao), the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum (Minneapolis), and the hotel at the Marques de Riscal Winery (El Ciego, Spain). Chan is a partner of the firm, collaborating with Frank Gehry on the design of a number of projects, which include an office building for Novartis International (Basel, Switzerland), the Louis Vuitton Foundation for Creation (Paris, France), and the extension to the Philadelphia Museum of Arts. He also designed The Art of Motorcycle for the Guggenheim Museum; the exhibition Exquisite Pain, for French artist Sophie Calle, in Luxembourg; and the set designs for the opera Ariadne Auf Naxos by Richard Strauss in Los Angeles. Chan received the honor of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres from the Republic of France, in 2008.

Piero Golia was born in Naples, Italy. He has been living and working in Los Angeles since 2003. His work has been shown in major galleries and museums in Europe and the United States, including the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam; PS 1 in New York; MaXXi in Rome; Witte de With in Rotterdam; SITE Santa Fe; and Gagosian Gallery in Los Angeles. In 2004, his feature film Killer Shrimps was selected for the Venice Film Festival, and in 2005, he cofounded the Mountain School of Arts, an educational institution that has rapidly became a major epicenter on the cultural map of the city of Los Angeles.
