Actions for the Future City is a compendium of ideas focusing on art, design, activism, and social justice that reimagines an urban future. This experimental catalogue—published online in an interactive format—showcases a generation of new global thinkers and offers actions—interventions, projects, art works, and social initiatives—that collectively provide an interdisciplinary index of initiatives for the future city. Each act is accompanied by a textual description and an image or illustration, offering replicable and scalable models for readers to implement actions locally.

Joseph Grima, editor, was appointed director of IdeasCity in October 2014. Grima is a leading editor, critic, and curator of architecture, design, and urban issues. From 2007 to 2010, he was director of the Storefront for Art and Architecture in New York, where he expanded international programming and supported experimental projects. In 2011, he was named editor of Domus and built a significant online presence for this leading architecture and design magazine. Grima was co-curator of the first Istanbul Design Biennial in 2012 and co-artistic director of the inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennial, in 2015. He is the author of Instant Asia: Fast Forward through the Architecture of a Changing Continent (Skira, 2008), coeditor of Shift: SANAA and the New Museum (New Museum and Lars Müller, 2008) and has published essays and articles in a number of journals and magazines, including AD, Abitare, Domus, Tank, Urban China, and Volume. He is the founder of Space Caviar, a design and research collaborative in Genoa, Italy.

Vere Van Gool, IdeasCity associate director, is an arts organizer and architect; previously, she was a researcher at Goldsmith’s College in London and founder of MISS, an independent arts program.

Ladi'Sasha Jones, IdeasCity project manager, is a writer and arts organizer; previously she was public programs coordinator at the Schomburg Center in Harlem and R&D Fellow in the New Museum's Education Department.

Terence Trouillot, IdeasCity editorial fellow is an arts writer, editor, and BOMB Magazine's Andrew W. Mellon Fellow for Oral Histories. He holds an MFA in art writing and criticism from the School of Visual Arts and a BA in history from Wesleyan University.

The New Museum's mission is “New Art, New Ideas.” Founded June 24, 1977, by curator Marcia Tucker, with a vision of presenting contemporary culture in critical, scholarly contexts, the institution is a leader among contemporary art museums and respected internationally for its risk-taking curatorial programs. Lisa Phillips, appointed director in 1999, expanded the institution's vision to include collaborative partnerships, art and technology platforms, and programs like IdeasCity, which redefine what a museum is and can be.
