Incorporating film stills, photographs, global data sets, drawings, diaries, and other documents, the book Information Fall-Out: Buckminster Fuller’s World Game collects and collates the wildly heterogenous body of materials that emerged from Fuller’s decades-long project. The book will narrate and analyze the evolution of the World Game from its first iteration as a massive, computerized, interactive playing surface—proposed for the US pavilion at Expo 67—to its eventual form as an itinerant series of environmental learning workshops. Across all of its forms, Fuller’s project remained fixated on involving a global population of participants in a quest to save the planet through design. Through documents and text, the book positions the World Game at the intersection of cold war politics, satellite imaging, computational design, and the postwar intertwining of global resource and information economies.

Mark Wasiuta is lecturer in architecture at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and codirector of the MS in Critical, Curatorial and Conceptual Practices in Architecture degree program. Wasiuta is recipient of recent grants from the Asian Cultural Council, NYSCA, and the Graham Foundation, where he is currently an inaugural Graham Foundation Fellow. His research exhibition practice focuses on under-examined projects of the postwar period and on the status of documents and archives for architecture. Recent exhibitions include Control Syntax Songdo at MAXXI in Rome, No Longer Art: Salvage Art Institute at Museo de Art de Zapopan in Mexico, and No-Stop Classroom at the 4th Istanbul Design Biennial and the LUMA Foundation in Arles, France. His work has also been exhibited at the Graham Foundation, LAXART, Het Nieuwe Instituut, Storefront for Art and Architecture, the Venice Architecture Biennale, the Benaki Museum, the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art, and elsewhere. He is coauthor and coeditor of Rifat Chadirj: Building Index (Arab Image Foundation and Kaph Books, 2018), Dan Graham’s New Jersey (Lars Müller Publishers, 2012), and author of numerous articles. His upcoming publications include The Archival Exhibition: A Decade of Research at the Arthur Ross Architecture Gallery, Documentary Remains, and Contact High: Environmental Communications.
