New Angle: Voice, launched in 2021, focuses on the under told stories of American women who broke barriers of gender, race, and education to make careers as architects and engineers, creating American cities and landscapes. The significance of this podcast emphasizes how women played important roles in the creation, development and popularization of twentieth century American architecture. It is influenced by recent turns, in architecture education and scholarship, toward the history of collaboration, toward the study of vernacular building types, and toward intersectional analysis of the way racism and sexism have affected both the opportunities to create and the interpretations of buildings and landscapes. The podcast takes high-level scholarship in conjunction with oral histories, archival audio resources, and new interviews and recordings, weaving together the voices of scholars, family members, and colleagues to tell the stories of these overlooked women.

Cynthia Phifer Kracauer is an architect and creative institutional administrator based in New York City and Los Angeles. She conceptualized numerous award winning projects including the execution of the Pioneering Women of American Architecture website. She has directed and produced over 200 multimedia exhibitions at Centers for Architecture around the country through her work at the New York Center for Architecture. Much of her professional experience as an architect took place through the second wave of feminist activism. She was a pioneer in the co-education initiative at Princeton University, in its second class of undergraduate women. Among her major architectural projects was the Northeast Regional Homeland Defense Training Center Master Plan (2001–03). Earlier, she taught design at the University of Virginia, The New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Princeton University. Kracauer serves as the host and spokeswoman for the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation podcast, New Angle: Voice.

Alexandra Lange has served as the editorial advisor, as well as a writer of scripted material for New Angle: Voice. She is a wide ranging architecture and design critic. Her writing has appeared in many publications including Architect, Harvard Design Magazine, Metropolis, T Magazine, The Atlantic, New York Magazine, The New Yorker, and the New York Times. She has written popularly on topics including The Design of Childhood: How the Material World Shapes Independent Kids (Bloomsbury, 2018) and Meet Me by the Fountain: An Inside History of the Mall (Bloomsbury, 2022). Her work has received a number of important awards, including the 2007 SAH Philip Johnson Book Award, and the Sir Bannister Fletcher Award. She was the author of the New York Times “Overlooked” obituary for Julia Morgan, and appears on the episode “Finding Julia Morgan” of New Angle: Voice.

Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation (BWAF), founded in 2002, is leading a cultural revolution in the building industry that will acknowledge, cultivate, and value women’s contributions and achievements—past, present, and future. BWAF advocates for gender equity in leadership and recognition in the architecture, design, landscape, engineering, technology, real estate and construction industries. BWAF achieves its mission by researching and documenting women’s contributions and achievements in the built realm, educating the public, and transforming industry practices. Through exhibitions, websites, media, public and invitation-only programs, BWAF collaborates with museums, universities, professional organizations, and other groups to advance women.
