Collage for the Edith Farnsworth House is the fifth chapter in an ongoing series of interventions in buildings and interiors designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The interventions are based on the architect’s own paper collages from the 1930s and beyond. For this iteration, Evron has designed a 500 square foot photographic print for the southern glass facade of the house, based on a deconstructed painting by Georges Braque. This work responds to Mies’s own interest with Braque paintings, the idea of camouflage and transparency that is central to the Farnsworth house, and the status of the house as an artwork itself. Other projects in this ongoing series have taken place at the McCormick House, Elmhurst Art Museum (2019); the Esplanade Apartments, Chicago (2019); S. R. Crown Hall at IIT College of Architecture, Chicago (2022); and The Arts Club of Chicago (2023).

Assaf Evron is an artist based in Chicago. His work investigates the nature of vision and the ways in which it is reflected in socially constructed structures, where he applies photographic thinking in various two and three-dimensional media. Looking at moments along the histories of modernism Evron questions the construction of individual and collective identities, immigration—of people, ideas, images—and representations of democracy.  His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums internationally. Evron holds a master’s degree from the Cohn Institute, Tel Aviv University, as well as an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), where he currently teaches. Since 2019 he has been realizing site-specific architectural interventions with Mies van der Rohe-designed buildings. His work has been exhibited in the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Crystal Bridges Museum for American Art, the 14th Gwangju Biennial, and the 12th International Architecture Exhibition–Venice Bienniale among others.
